hi, i got my employment based GC close to year ago through IT consulting company. i have been hearing that now a days its very risky to travel as people are having issues returning to US. while this is mostly true for those currently on H1b, is there any risk for GC holder traveling out of US now a days ?

GC holders without extensive travel abroad or other red-flag issues (e.g. traveling to Iran or Cuba, or a criminal record) rarely have problems returning to the US.

However, if you anticipate the possibility of a long overseas assignment, you should consider delaying your travel until you have completed 12 consecutive months in the US (since you are already close to it) so you can possibly qualify for N-470.

Hi mk1039,
It is advisable to restrict trips abroad to a maximum of 180 days with the travel document (Form I-131)recording long time abroad trips. The continuous physical residence for five years is a criteria to apply for US citizenship. So plan accordingly!
