travel on I551 stamp

Folks,

Im travelling to India next week , returning end of april . My I551 stamp expires on the 14th of May (havent got my green card yet) .

I wanted to know if the INS will extend my stamp before I travel. Im planning to go down to the LA office tmorrow. ALso does anyone know if its ok to stand in the appointments line? WHat room number do i say i want to go to?

I had a few questions for you:
1) Is it taking over 10 months to get the GC now ?

Also I was told by my lawyer to carry a copy of the I-485 approval notice along with me just in case I planned to travel before receiveing the green card.

He said I would need to go to secondary inspection where they would pull up my info in the computer and then let me thru..so the 485 approval notice helps here.
 
Go and try to renew the stamp. If they do not renew, I do not see why you should be having any problems because you are entering US in april which is before the expiry of the stamp. It should not be a problem.

Well, I havent got the GC as yet bcos according to the IIO , my I89 hasnt gone through (lol they never told me that the first 10 times i called them up ) . 3-4 months is normal. I guess im an exception and not the rule..

Im returning back in april end/1st week of may, my RS expires may 14th , which is cutting it too fine what with the war and all.

Went down to the INS office today they said they wont restamp until 30days till expiry (ie april 14th in my case) .I'm just gonna cancel my trip till then. Dont wanna take any chances right???
