I am planning to use AP to travel to India next week. I am working on EAD and changed company after 180 days of 485. I have not informed INS on my own about change of company and I don't believe my new company did so(They bought over part of my old company that's how I ended up here).
I have the following concerns.
1. My AP expires in the second week of Feb. and I am planning to come back just a week before that. Will there be a problem at port of entry because of the timing.
2. Do they ask questions about employment? What do I tell them if they ask about the current employer. Can I tell them about my change of job and show the proof?

I am concerned about travelling at this time because of so many things going wrong for immigrants.

Thanks in advance

Your concerns are real.

Your case is not 100% GO or NOGO. Since you are on AP and working on EAD then at the port of entry defiantly INS will ask for last paystubs and letter from your current employer and probably 485 Receipt. And defiantly there is change in employer on 485 receipt and your paystubs. So as per law AC21 you are safe but it depends on you and INS officer at the port of entry.
How you make him(INS officer) understand and how he understands you ?

I would say avoid any trip to INDIA if you can and if you can not avoid then there is no other option.
If you have decided to go then take every damn paper with you like..

letter from last employer
letter from current employer (saying that "They bought over part of my old company"
paystubs from last and current employer
Copy of AC21 law. ( Most important ) and high light which says you can change jobs after 180 days
tax papers
apartment lease
All the receipt notice from INS
All the approvals notice from INS
etc. what ever you find related to INS and your identity

Good luck

As per my lawyer you need 2 things to get in :

AP copy and I-485 receipt.

Asked her if I needed an employment letter or paystub and
she said no.

Thanks guys! Another question

Any problem with using AP just a week before expiry to re-enter?
I just realized that AP/EAD/485 receipt do not mention the company name, so unless the INS officer asks me for pay stubs or letter, I should be OK? Right?
Can anyone write their experiences of using AP to travel?

Thanks

Logically you need just two things AP and 485 receipt but INS does not work on logical things. So it is always better to have every thing with you IN CASE..
at the port of entry your lawyer eill not be there to help you, you have to manage by your self so be ready for any thing, I am not trying to scare you but it is always better to be ready.

I was in a similar situation last year and travelled on AP 4 times out of the country. I think a lot of it depends on which airport you are coming into while you return.

Most of the west coast airports are easy. Especially LAX.
in SFO they ask you to go to secondary but normally no questions are asked.

in LA they just asked me 1 question about the company.

There is nothing to fear on your case.Prepare your other papers just in case.
My only advice is to file for an extension of your AP before you leave as the immigration officer at the port of entry give you a new I-94 which is good up to the expiration of your AP.S/he will stamp your AP and passport dated the second week of February 03.
