Travel in Dec - AP or H1B or too late?

I have a RD of Dec 2001 for my 485. No sign of 2nd finger prints or RFE.

My H1B expires on November 24th this year.

My wife, son and I have just booked a trip home leaving December 9th.

Given that there is no guarantee of an approval by December (at this rate) - do I encourage my companies lawyer to apply for a H1B renewal now - or go the AP route? Or both?

How long are AP's taking? After 90 days can I walk into the Boston office?

Am I too late?

i am looking for the same answer.
MY AP RD is may 30 2003 and so far no approval. Keep atleast 5-6 months handy. You never know what is going to happen.
People reading this post could help me out here. Since I have passed 60 days, Can I go to local office (Arlington, VA) and get AP?
