Travel during Green Card Renewal

Hi:
My wife's 10 year limit on Green Card is expiring soon and we have applied for renewal. Finger printing is over and they said that she will receive the Renewed Green Card any time within 6 months. What should she do if she wants to visit India before she gets the renewal.
Sincerely,
Satyanarayana

Questions for you

Hi,

My mother's GC is expiring in 5 months. I am going to file I-90 for her in 2 weeks. Could you share your timeline of getting biometrics after initial filing? She is planning to traval as well after finger print. I thought that you could have your passport stamped for a extended period time? Any idea?

Thanks

If you filed your renewal application on time
and
your GC has expired or near expiring
and
there is still no news of your renewal,

you could get an INFOPASS to your DO, get a temporary stamp on your passport that extends your LPR status temporarily by another 1 year till your renewal application is adjudicated.

If you are outside of the United States at the time of the card’s expiration, and you have not applied for the renewal card prior to your departure, you should contact the nearest American Consulate, USCIS office, or Port of Entry, before attempting to file Form I-90 for a renewal I-551 card.
