Hello guys anybody know the difference between a travel document and an advance parole? As an asylee which can I use if I intend to travel in Europe?
Thank you for replying.

as an asylee, u have to get a refugee travel document, advanced parole/ reentry permit is really for applicants with pending immigrations applications who want to travel abroad whilst their application is being processed by uscis.

check out this link:

Individuals who have been admitted as refugees or granted asylum, including those who are applying for adjustment of status, do not need to obtain Advance Parole. Instead, these individuals should apply for a Refugee Travel Document using Form I-131 and comply with applicable application requirements, such as biometric processing, prior to leaving the United States.

Lawful permanent residents who obtained such status as a result of being a refugee or asylee in the United States may also apply for a Refugee Travel Document. For more information on Refugee Travel Documents please see How Do I Get a Refugee Travel Document?

Asylum applicants, asylees and lawful permanent residents who obtained such status based on their asylum status are subject to special rules with regard to traveling outside the United States. Such individuals are encouraged to review USCIS’ Fact Sheet Traveling Outside the United States as an Asylum Applicant, an Asylee, or a Lawful Permanent Resident Who Obtained Such Status Based on Asylum Status.

advance parole? forget about it for asylees.

if you are granted asylum but has not got GC, apply for RTD. If you got asylum and filed for GC after one year and got GC, apply for RP not RTD cos RP is valid for 2 years while RTD for one year only.

I'd not apply since I got GC now. I would apply for RP not RTD.

What's RP stands for? Please explain. Thanks

RP stands for Reentry Permit and you need GC in order to get it. I do not have GC yet but when I do my choice will still be RTD. Many countries do not require visa when you hold RTD while with RP they do. Some may argue that with RP you save $385 every other year but in my opinion when you take into account the hustle and the fees in order to get the visa you need, then you don't really save much $$ if any at all.

Thanks for the details RB_ME,so basically, with the RTD an asylee should be able to travel to UE and return without problem. Do I need my NP at the POE? Do the countries of Schengen require visa to RTD holders??

Every country has its own requirements. You should check with the embassy's website of the countries you want to visit as not all of them are visa free for RTD holders. There is a very useful sticky post at the top of this forum addressing the matter.
About the NP, I never understood why an Asylee would want to use his/her NP

the country where i intend to travel requires visa so therefore, RP is my best choice. i advice others to opt for RP cos it is valid for 2 full yrs.
