Travel after taking oath

Immediately after taking oath and getting the citizenship certificate, what if someone wants to travel overseas while the US passport is still not received yet?

Can the person use his/her original passport and wait for the new US passport to be mailed to the overseas destination, before being able to get back to the US? As we all know, green card has been taken away by the time we take oath.

During my oath ceremony, one of the immigration officials mentioned that we can only travel using the naturalization certificate to Mexico and Canada. Unless you're going to either of the aforementioned countries, it's better to wait for your US passport before leaving the country.

Remember to bring a copy of your travel itinerary with you when applying for your passport. I was told that it really only takes 3 business days for the expedited application, but they quote "2-3 weeks" due to "mailing time".

Actually, I applied for the expedited passport around 2pm, the next day at 10 am the passport was ready. One of my friends got it in the same day he applied for.
