Hi everybody,

Please help!
My interview is on November 9, but judging from what I see in this portal, the Oath might be in January.
Can I travel to my home country after Interview but before the Oath? I have a ticket, but most important, I can travel only during the school break and I have serious family reasons for travel. But, it goes without saying, that I will stay in the States, if it is not recommended.

PLEASE ADVISE!

Yes you can. Once you get your oath letter, fill on the back as to your travel dates.

I am planning to do same. And, as far as information I have gathered from this forum, travel should not be an issue as long as residency requirement is not affected.

Either you can send back the Oath letter (with reschedule request) or visit your DO for the same.

i am in the same exact boat - interview on dec 2, tickets booked for dec 10th. During the interview we are planning to request oath in january.

I am certain requesting an oath in January will be done after passing and being recommended for naturalization by IO. Anything prior to this information could be presumptuous..... Most sane IO's will be fine with rescheduling your oath to January while you enjoy vacation away from cold uncle sam. Good luck on Dec 2nd, dress nicely and no ripped jeans and flip flops (especially to all Floridians) and remember no birthday suits allowed in or near any federal building unless accompanied by a permit.....:D

I really would prefer to travel with US passport already.
If I am approved, may I ask the IO for the oath in November? Once again, my interview is on November 9.

Can anybody tell me, what they do in Massachusetts : do they give you an oath letter with the date or we have to wait for the oath letter? In we have to wait, what shall I do with my ticket for December 22?

Does anybody think that I have a chance for oath before travel?

I'm in the same boat as well.
Interview next Tuesday (Nov 10) and then we're off on Nov 20 to Middle East and I'll stop for a week in Italy for work on the way back while my wife will come back home on Nov 30.
Chances are that my oath could be scheduled on Nov 20. Since my flight is at 11pm, I plan on getting a same day passport at the agency (my father-in-law obtained one in 2 hours, even though it was a renewal).

What would a US passport do for you in this case?
You can ask the I/O. A colleague of mine declined two dates (at the interview, once he passed) before finally accepting a third one.
Some officers are more flexile than others.
If he offers an oath during your travel, then ask for a later date.
Who cares about becoming a citizen a month earlier at this point?
Enjoy your vacation.
