I am stuck in a situation where the more informed members of the forum could perhaps help me. I am on an F1 VISA (3 more years to expire), I wish to apply for OPT to start work by end of May at a company, which is just a few weeks after my graduation (Will graduate by May 14th).
However, after applying for OPT, before OPT approval, can I leave and re-enter the country, *before* graduation? I actually need to go to India in March for an important family function, by then I would not have graduated but would have applied for my OPT (and my I-20 will reflect this information).
Is this safe to do this, or pose any serious risks? I know that the POE officer always can deny re-entry, but since I will still have more than 9 weeks for my graduation, will they do such a thing?
Any pointers/information/guidance in this regard will be much appreciate. Thanks in anticipation.
