Hi,

I will become US citizen after my Oath in three weeks. I have a child who was born in India and has LPR status. I am assuming I will be able to apply for her US passport.

Looking at the Passport web site it requires that Indian birt certificate is fine along with a translation. Has anyone gone through this?

Do I need to get some official translation to English or anyone can do it.

Thanks,

It would be best if you can get it notarised from the India. A
sample of the same is attached below.

I did the same for myself when I applied for my greencard (employment
based) in 1998. Should not take more than 2-3 days to ge it, assuming
you can contact any legal attorney/lawyer in India. Doesn't cost more
than $5 - $10 in (Indian currency). I am not sure in which denomination
one needs to buy the court stamp paper now a days for the notarized
birth certificate. The attorneys/lawyers know about this since it is
a common procedure there which many folks get it done.

Alternatively, you can explore
http://www.universitylanguage.com/translation.html for getting it certified here but I am not sure if this is valid. You will need to call them to check it up.

Good luck in getting the same..
