Hello,

My daughter's birth cerificate if in MARATHI (Native language of Maharashtra, India) I contacted National Passport Information Center and person told me that I need to get it transalated from someone who is doing this for living (like University Professor, Translation Agenecies, etc.). I asked whether they accept Birth Certificate issued by Indian Embassy. She said that she did not come across any application with Birth Certificate issued by Indian Embassy, but it should be ok.

Is there anyone in similar situation from Bay Area? What is best option for me?

Thanks for your time to respond.

Regards,

Dilip Jaju

is your daughter a US Citizen? If she is a US Citizen, does she have the cert of citizenship or nat. cert?

Hello ocworker,

Thanks for reply. My mistake. I should have given more clarification. No, my daughter is not US citizen. I will be attending Oath ceremony on 16th November. Since my daughter is 16 years old, she will aquire citizenship based on inhertance. Eventually I will apply for her naturalization certificate (N600). But before that I want to get US passport for her.

I see. I did not know the child of the US citizen (naturalized) would be able to aquire the citizenship based on inhertance on the same day you become US citizen.

Can your home country embrassy in US do the translation service too?
