Hey all

just a quick question.

I applied for my reentry permit back in july i think. I got a receipt that they received my application but havent heard anything else yet. I have already left the country.

Basically i will be taking an intercontental flight which will involve transiting in the US. My flight will neither origonate in the US or end in it just a change of planes i guess in the US. Will this be a problem? Also i dont have my GC on me i left it in a safe place while im traveling. But the visa in my passport is still valid.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

You do not provide sufficient information to answer your question. What visa do you have in your passport. My guess is that you need to get that GC from its safe place.

Il try to be clearer

I am wondering weather entering the US even if im only transiting will effect the status of my re entry permit even if i have not received it yet? My country is under the visa waiver programe so i can enter the states with out any visa. The visa in my pass port is the one they give you before you get your green card and acts as a green card for up to one year after you enter the states.

So you did consular processing and got an immigrant visa stamped in your passport? If it is still valid and unexpired, it is as good as a green card for travel purposes.

But depending on where you are coming from and where you're going, you don't necessarily need a US visa of any kind if you're not going to leave the airport. Check with the airline and find out what the arrangement is with regards to changing planes and how the airport works. If you're able to remain in the airport without going through immigration to catch the next flight, and they'll check your luggage all the way through so you don't have to claim them until your final destination, you probably won't need a visa.

You should not use the visa waiver, because that is only for entering under non-immigrant status.

The thing is im fairly sure they no longer just put bags through on any foreign flights with a transfer in the US at least none that ive heard friend or family on lately.

So if i enter the US while i am on a re-entry permit is the permit cancelled or is it still good up untill the date its meant to expire??
