I guess if you are on AP or expired h1b you better get it done to be safe than sorry...
Someone i know did get his transit visa as he was flying thru germany and his H1B visa expired... its a no hassel process.... you just have to go german consulate and file in the application along with a photograph and the neccessary fees and paper.... they will give you the visa the next day.... have your tickets also if they might ask....
its much better than british consulate as we had to send my wifes passport... AP approval letter and the work auth (orignal) .. we are still waiting to receive it.. they say it takes between 5-10 business days....
