Experts,

Has anyone any experience travelling thru Zurich to India? I am not sure if we need to apply for a "Transit visa" eventhough we are NOT LEAVING the Airport but waiting there for a connecting flight.

The Web site is not very clear about it. Also the Lady at the Swiss Embassy was not sure what EAD/AP is.

Any help in this matter is highly appreciated.

BTW, My 140/485 is with ND June 26th 2003. 140 cleared in APR'04. NO FP notice received yet!

cheers

Zurich Transit

I travelled from NY to Paris via Zurich two weeks. No visa issues whatsoever. They checked my AP in NY when I left and on the way back in Zurich before boarding the return flight to NY.

cool, thanks for your prompt reply. But Q- Are you an Indian Citizen or European Citizen? Or other? They have diff. rules for diff. countries

Can you please clarify? thnks

I am Eastern European
Transit visa rules for you will not apply if you are travelling in Europe since you are an European. I think the original poster should try to find from an Asian who has travelled through that route.

Hi makeyourpoint,

If you r an Indian citizen then you must take transit visa ONLY if you do not have a valid US visa stamped on your passport. it's costing $40 MAX.

My friend is leaving today and he is same in u'r situation and he got it stamped.

my advice, TAKE IT! n'joy u'r vacation.

Thanks

Thanks to all for the reply. I once again called the NY swiss embassy and they told me that if I dont have a VISA but am on EAD/AP, then I will need a Transit Visa for travelling via Zurich.

IT better to be safe than sorry. Thanks once again to all.

makeurpoint,
If you have time to get the transit visa it is advisable to get it. But if you have a connecting flight within few hours and if you do not have to go out of Zurich airport I am pretty sure you will not have to show your visa anywhere in Zurich.
But when you board the plane to Zurich in US airport, boarding agents will ask for Passport & green card. At that point I showed AP and it was good enough. This can be different with other airlines. I flew Delta. Some officials do not know what AP is. Also when I called Swiss embassy they said it is a grey area. When I called Delta they said 'If U have what U say U have, You are allowed to board'. This operator called ATL airport agents when I was on hold.
