Hi Folks,

Does one need a transit visa to Travel from US to India via Frankfurt or Amsterdam?

I don't have any visa stamped on my passport, but have a valid AP document.

Thanks,

No transit visa needed for Amsterdam

I spoke to KLM air lines few days back and I learned that one does not need a transit visa for amsterdam(IF you have India passport). I told them about VISA in my passport is expired. I do not have AP either. He looked into thier system and he confirmed that I wouldn't need a transit Visa.

you should also call KLM airlines and find it out yourself for your peace of mind.

Unless you have a valid visa stamped in the passport you should have a transit while flying through Frankfurt. I flew to India in Jan using AP, called German Consulate, they assurd that I need a visa and so applied & got it.

If you live in Boston, the Consulate is in Copley Square. They open at 9 AM. They give back the stamped passport at 12. It costs $12. The procedure is very simple. They need the confirmed itinerary, passport original & copies, your current status originals & copies and travel document original & copy. The visa is valid for 3 months from the date of entry(as per your itinerary).

Hope this helps

My husband traveled in December. He did not get transit visa in US, so he went to German consulate in Mumbai. After waiting for few hours, he was told he does not need a transit visa. He did not have a valid stamp, but had valid AP document.

no need of transit visa thru frankfurt

I travelled and returned to US Feb 16th via Frankfurt in Lufthansa on an expired visa and advance parole. I did not take transit visa and u don't need one. U just need to show ur advance parole document and there is no problem. So please don't take a transit visa.

not at all necessary kvpt_mm

Forget whatz put there, we just don't need a transit visa becoz i am in the same situation and i did not get a transit visa. I travelled 2 days back. So based on my personal experience i can vouch that u don't need transit visa thru frankfurt. People in Frankfurt airport very well understand what AP is and they let u travel with it without any problem. So please don't take transit visa when travelling thru Frankfurt, it is a waste of money and time.

Because you were not questioned its not that its unnnecessary. Please note that transit visa is not for those who have an incidentless fly. If there is a problem in the airport then only they check for the transit. According to me, no money and time is equivalent to the peace of mind while travelling. So if the Consulate says its needed then its. Period.

I have got the transit for just $12. I was happy that nobody asked me any questions in any airport. I was not also worried that they may question. That was my point of view, if you feel otherwise that's your choice.

Whenever you search answers for travel documents required, immigration officer's decision is final in any country. All are worried about the $50 you are going to spend. I have read postings in the same forum about people being stopped at the time of boarding.

Peace of mind while travelling is the biggest factor according to me. Flying for 20 hrs thinking what may happen and spending my vacation in that concern is not my way of having fun.

unnecessary...

But I am 100% sure it is not needed, and I have not heard of anyone having trouble in Frankfurt. So i guess it is stupid to waste time and money. It is becoz of people who r confused and take it, that all these problems have started. Becoz some people take transit visa other people r confused whether to take it or not and that is why they don't have peace of mind when they travel. I travelled without transit visa and i was clear i don't need one. I had a peaceful vacation.
