Hi all,

I have a F1 visa valid till 2005. I have graduated from school and received a change of status to H1 while in the US. Am planning to visit india for stamping and during my travel, there will be stops at Frankfurt, Bahrain (Gulf Air) before landing in bangalore. Do I need any transit visa for any of these places.

I have an unrelated question. While flying back to US, there is an overnight stay at Bahrain. I assume I would need a visa. Can anyone tell me how to get this visa?

TIA

Transit Visa Requirement

I gather you are traveling with Indian passport.
If you are only passing through Frankfurt no transit visa is required as you will not leave the airport.
If you are traveling through the Kingdom of Bahrain then you do not need a visa when you do not leave the airport.
On your return if you travel through Bahrain and plan to stay you need to get a visa unless you have a western or gcc passport. Your visa options are:

1. 72 hour visa given on condition that you show a valid ticket and visa for USA. Cost: 5 -10 BD or 26.5 US$

2. Apply for tourist visa from India to Bahrain through a local hotel.Cost: 20 BD or 50-55US$

3. LAST OPTION WHEN YOU ARRIVE IN BAHRAIN STAY AT THE AIRPORT HOTEL WHICH IS WITHIN THE TERMINAL AND NOT LEAVE THE AIRPORT AND SO NEED FOR A VISA.

Should you need more info please post. :)

canindo.. appreciate ur help.. well, things got a little confusing after i received a reply to my enquiry from the german embassy.. the email says:

<<snip
the regulations state that you don't need a transit visa if you have a valid visa for the United States . It seems like you do have a valid student visa , but no valid I 20 ? If that is the case you would need a transit visa. Please refer to our website at www.miami.diplo.de.
Best regards

so i guess i need the damn visa..

and about the visa at Bahrain, my agent says that the airline guys will take care of the visa without me payin nothing.. is that true??

Visa

You should have an I-20 from your university if you are still a student. Otherwise you are on H-1 visa which is current therefore what the german embassy says is not valid since you will be in the airport only.

As for visa for Bahrain, airlines (depending on which) generally WILL NOT take care of visas if you do not have a western passport.

In the gulf, Indian passports are not treated in par, so it is my advise to you take the 72 hour visa option on your return even if you have to pay. Or if you do not want to pay but are ready to remain in the airport you can take the airport hotel which requires no visa.

** Note that information is accurate as I am an American citizen currently working in the Gulf.
