Transit Visa for travel through UK?

Hi,

My parents will be travelling to USA from India. They have a stop over in London.

For one of my friend's father travelling to Frankfort thru London was stopped in India since he didn't have a transit visa for travel thr'u London.

Kindly let me know if transit visa is required for travel thr'u London. And if yes, how should I apply for it? Urgent response is requested.

of questions.. So call and ask couple of agents to make sure

I believe, you need transit visa in europe if your US visa is expired...
