Transit at LHR need help!!!!!!

I have gc and NP, I will be travelling through London soon and have 23hr layover there, I dont want to spend that time at the airport is it possible if I can go out see my friends or rent a hotel for a day. To visit the UK my nationality requires a visiter visa but in my case with gc and NP i dont know whats their policy to let us out. Any information from anyone will be greatly appreciated and please dont send links to other websites or UK consulates website, I hve read those but cant figure out if can leave the airport. Let me know please if you know something. I dont have enough time to get a visa either which would be lot easier.

You can stay at the airport only. You are not allowed to leave the airport even with a green card. The green card is for US government purposes and proof that you are allowed to live and work here permanently and has nothing to do with the UK whatsoever.. You will need a visitor visa to clear passport control at heathrow, no ifs ands or buts. Have a nice flight.
