There have been a lot of cases transferred to local office recently. The reasons could be varied. But please read the following information:

The NSC confirmed that it transfers some employment-based cases to the local offices for interview when there is a derivative spouse I-485 application involving a relatively recent marriage. This transfer to the local office will slow the adjudication of the case considerably.

Guys, if you case has been transferred, please post the info whether you just got married. I guess a lot might fall in this category. Thanks!

How recent is recent?

When you say recent how recnt is recent?
1 month? 6 months? 1 year? 2 year? It all depends.

Also I do not think this could be a reason as both
beneficieries are on Non-innigrant category.

If one of them is citizen of US and other applies
for 485, it will definitely go for interview.

I have heard from many guys who talked to officers in Maryland
they do because of reduction in load in VSC,
Baltimore has a big office and they have all resources.
Apparantly they have 5 officers, allot 1 hour time for an
interview. they can conduct 10 interviews in a day...

well.... but then why are they so slow.. that is topic of discussion
for another thread ...
