Transfer to local office

I'm moving from Chicago to Detroit. Detroit local office lists processing date of December '02 vs September '01 in NSC. Does this mean that I'd be better off if my case is transferred to local office? If so will filing of AC-21 notice and AR-11 be enough to initiate such transfer?

I believe having a file transfer to the local office is the best thing that can happen to you in the I-485 nightmare. You may have an interview, so what. Just bring what they request and answer their standard questions. You'll get approved and your physical card quicker. An AR-11 and an AC-21 will flag for transfer to local office.
