One of my friend is in problematic situation. His CZ interview is in end of Jan 06. But because of some situation he has to return to India by begining of Jan.
As he is moving to India for good and taking all of his house hold stuffs through shipping he will take Transfer of residence.

Now he will come back before his interview. But he is worried that there will be Transfer of residency stamp on the passport so during the CZ interview it will create problem.

Does USCIS check your passport during interview? Can Transfer of residency stamp be placed on wife's passport? Any other good suggestion?

JoeF,

I think I may not be clear in previous posting.

He did stay in US with GC for 5yrs and applied for Citizenship and got interview 30th Jan 06. His plan was to take the citizenship and then move back to India. Once you get the citizenship then you can stay anywhere.

But due to some urgency he is going to India with his family during 1st week of Jan 06 and take the transfer of residency (TR). But he will come back to US before interview. He is worried that if TR stamps is on the passport then US may not grant him citizenship. My question was "Do immigration officer sees your passport during citizenship interview?"

If yes then what suggestion one may have for my friend?

The interviewing official will go through the passport, at least to spot-check the trips documented on the N-400.

Your friend can't have it all. If citizenship is important to him, then he should complete the process legitimately. Travel as he wishes before the interview, but never to actually "transfer residence." Leave that to later...
