any idea on what is the procedure on using ap as you get back into country from there?
What kind of questions did you encounter when you get back from other ports?

I have come back more than 50 times from Toronto to U.S. You clear INS/Customs in Toronto. They will ask for your AP or H1-B, but will only refer you to secondary IF there is a problem.

Questions are the usual, who you work for, how long you were away from U.S., that's basically it.

Leave lots of extra time as sometimes the lineup for INS can be 1 hour.

If it is the first time that you use your AP, you will be sent to the back room for additional processing. The good thing is that they give AP processing top priority. I have done this twice and both times the additional wait was 10 to 15 min.

do they care that you have canadian maple card? do you have to carry documents about the job and company you are working for?

tombaan,

They ask basic stuff, and don't get into a lot of details. It's a very straight forward process, just show them your passport and ap.

Good luck!

It depends who you get...again I have gone through Toronto airport at least 50 times in the past 2 years with AP. The very first time you use it each year you go into the back (secondary), they give you priority and stamp AP, plus give you I-94 and stamp passport. Sometimes, the guy can be a dick and ask lots of questions. Othertimes, it's hello and goodbye. Bring job stuff, etc for the first time. Also, all conversation is taped and videoed, so don't lie or mess around!!

The very interesting thing about Toronto is that each time you use it after the first time, the initial officer just writes in pen "reparolled Oct 1/03" and you are on your way very quickly. In Miami, or other aiports in the U.S., I always have to go to secondary for a brand new I-94 card and stamp in passport and on AP, which is time consuming and a pain in the as*!!

The Toronto system is MUCH quicker!!

For initial AP stamping bring everything you can think of. For subsequent, you only need I-14 approval notice and I-485 receipt, but they rarely ask for this.
