To switch job OR not to switch job!

I have been with a company for over 7 years. They did H-1, LC, and this July applied for I-485, I-140, etc. I have received AP and EAD. My case afterwards was transferred to local office in Atlanta. It will be 6 months in January after having applied for I-485 and I-140. My question is: after January '05, can I switch jobs in the same line of work? even if I don't receive I-140 approval by then. What could be the consequences?

Is there any place on the web, where the law pertaining to this is stated explicitly?

To be on the safe side - avoid changing until I-140 is approved. Its a risk - depends on ur employer. If he pulls back I-140, you will start from scratch.
