In some places the birth certificates may list your name as
<S. John> (John is the given name aka Firstname of the person)

In the passport it may get expanded to say, <Smith John>

In GC, N-400 application etc - name is listed as:

First Name: John
Last Name: Smith

What will be the name in the Natz Certificate (S. John? if it were to go by Birth Cert in the country it was issued?) Wont the Natz Cert want to expand the name, rather than list it as "S."

Anyone who has faced this situation? Pls. post what happened to your Natz Certificate name.

I believe all naturalization certificates show full name. However, I think my birth certificate also showed full name, so it is hard to say. I believe same thing applies for middle name being expanded. I think they will also base their decision in whatever name you put down in your application, so if you put your expanded name on the N-400 that is most likely what will show in the certificate. Worse comes to worse USCIS has a mechanism to deal with incorrect certificates at the ceremony, at least they had a table at the ceremony in Campbell, CA.

It also depends on IO a lot (Infact it all depends on IO) In Atlanta DO, my IO only went by what was on Birth certificate. No matter what GC, Passport, drivers license, and every other document in my life said. At another DO, an IO allowed changes to merge two names into a first name. At Atlanta DO itself, 2 years back, a friend of mine was ASKED what she wants on Nat cert. So it is all over the map. When you go for interview, they will ask you to write the name as it appears on Nat cert. At that time you will know what that IO will do and you may be able to convince him/her if that does not match what you want.
Good luck !!
