My mother recently got her Green card. She travelled to US this november to get it stamped. Unfortunately she might have to go to india immediately. Would she be putting her status in jeopardy as she is leaving without completing 6 months stay in US?

I was told that to maintain the GC status one has to be in US for 6 months. How can one maitain the GC status? Is it necessary to be in US for six months when one comes here for stamping? Or can one can go back to India in a few months and then come back again?

There is no rule that you must spend 6 months in the US.

But the rule is that she must LIVE permanently in the USA... she can go back to India afte she receives the GC, BUT ONLY for a few months (less than 6) and her plans must be to reside in the USA.

You can not live in India, and visit the USA every 6 months and go back... That will get her to lose the GC.
