RFE = Request for additional evidence.
RFI = Request for initial evidence(Medical and Biographic)
RFI is something you should do when applying for your GC.That's why they call it initial.Because of the long period of time asylees I-485s take to be processed, uscis advices us to not send medical the time we're applying. That's why you see the system asks for it when the process starts on your case, even if you sent medical initially.same for Biographic, you might get new jobs, new addresses, from the time you applied to the time they are processing your case.RFI is the first step on your processing case. Now,RFE comes as last step on your processing case. It's the time the officer wants to make a decision on your case and thinks you need some material proof to get approved.Example,if you enter the US illegally, you need to fill out form I-602.RFE may also be proof of your travels, proof of one year physical presence in US after asylum approval. It may be photos. It depends on the officer handling your case. When you submit RFE,you're get approved in 4 weeks. It took me just one week to get approved after submitting my RFE(I-602,I entered US with false document). Now if you can't get approved in 4 weeks after RFE submission, make sure something is wrong on your case and the officer must take time to approve your case.
Good luck.If you have any question, please ask us and we will help or send me a private message if you think you can't display it.

I did send them my medical when U applied in 10/2003. My RFI is on its way from TSC. Do you think they will ask me for another medical or you think it will be only G325?

Looserd are you derivative as spouse or child.Your answer will help us to answer properly to you question.Thanks.

Memo,RFI means both medical and Biographic. You're gonna do new medical and new Biographic. In the message, uscis asks you to not sent new medical and ask youto notify them in statement if you sent it initially. But to keep your process clear,I advice you to do new medical.
Good look.

Ok, LOOSERD how hold were you the time you were applying for Green Card? The answer to this is very important. Thanks

Thank you so much Cadel, I can do another one. It will take may be a couple more days but it is worth spending some time and money if you think it makes the process more clear. I will make an appointment with a civil surgeon on Mon. and wait for the letter to come.

please wait till you receive your letter and find out what the CIS needs from you. I submitted my medical when I applied for 'adjustment of status' and they did not ask me for another one before receiving my GC. Another friend of mine had to do the medical twice. There are no rules. So wait till you receive the letter.

ma1231, What you say makes a lot of sense. I was gonna make the appointment and wait till I receive the letter but I guess I should just wait. I don't know why it is taking so long to get here though.
