Hi Jaxen,

you provided a sample letter for AP in I-485 FAQ, does this sample letter serve as the cover letter? and with this sample letter, do I still need to, on a separate sheet, explain how I qualify for an advanced parol and what circumstance warrant issuance of advanced parol, as required by Part 7 of the application form I131? and if yes, what should I say?

You don't need to provide any reason for part 7.
I applied for AP by myself (got approved recently). When I was preparing the forms, I contacted two different lawyers including Mr Khanna's office. They clearly said that there is no need to include a reason for AP.
You do need to attach a copy of the 485 receipt notice.
It is implicit to BCIS that since the 485 takes so long, AP is to be given. You don't need to give any reason.
All I did was use the following cover letter with the application form filled, the fees and a copy of 485.

Petitioner: YOUR NAME

Dear Sir or Madam:
Please find enclosed Form I-131 (Application for Travel Document) and supporting documents as follows:
1. A check in the amount of $110 to cover filing fees.
2. Copy of receipt notice from INS, which shows my Form I-485 Application for adjustment of status, is pending.
3. Two photographs of myself (Name printed on back).
