Hi , I am landed immigrant in Vancouver, working in Seattle (H1B) , I was wondering if it makes sense to import my CAR to Canada, or keep on using the American registration ?

Will there be any problem travelling to Canada in American registration . .. I shall be travelling back and forth ..week days / week ends Vancouver -Seattle ?
Any suggestions guys ?

Also when I landed if didn't carried the list of 'Goods to Import', its 4 montsh not , can I submitt the list now , as I returned back to US after landing in August , but now really moving to Canada after convincing my company of moving my job to Canada with me, I will still need to travel Seattle regularly though ..

Any guidance will be appreciated....
Thanks

As long as you have a US license with a US plate , you are okay for US DOL stuff

If you do not have canadian drivers License , you might have a problem proving residency in canada in the long run , If you are not claiming residency in canada it is okie.

Your US insurance is also valid in canada only for travel but since you have landed , they may change their minds when you make a claim .

Moreover , You might be asked a lot of questions at the border entering canada

Guess thats what comes to my mind

Living in Canada as a PR and driving US plated car may cause problems with the Canada Customs. They may refuse to allow your car (not you) and you may be forced to turn back to the US.

I had that experience with a rental car with US plates. They refused to allow the car and hence had to return to the US and bring back my own car (cdn plated).

Something you may want to bear in mind....

If I import the car to Canada , can I come back to Seattle next day , when the Canadian registration is pending ?

Or a completed registration by Canadian Registry is required before the car can be driven back to US for short trips ?

any thoughts ?
