Hi Gilbert, i responded to your message about backdating my time a year for citizenship but you may have not got it. Can you explain to me how i do that? thanks

To my understanding it take 5 years from the day of your I-485 approval passport stamping for other categories. For asylees, and perhaps refugees too, the INS will backdate one year hence you can apply for N-400 4yrs after your passport/I-94 stamping. Wait for Gilbert's answer if I didn't answer your question.

Right, four years for asylees.

But for refugees the green card is backdated to the date they first enter the US as refugees so it makes no difference when their adjustment is approved. They can apply five years after entering the country as long as they have their GC by then.
