Hi Gurus,

My daughter came to US on H4 and changed to F1 status 4 weeks ago. She is studying final year of her Bachlors degree and will complete degree by Dec. 2004 .

We anticipate an invitiable visit to India during June 2004 and need to get her F1 stamped.

Can we get f1 stamped from Canada? Any chances of denials? If denied, can we apply for H4 visa and come back US for completing her degree?

Appreciate your valuable guidance.

Thanks in advance

Rao

Hi Rao,

Can you please share your experience of getting F1 visa stamped in Canada instead of India? How easy or hard was the process? I, too am in a similar boat and am not able to decide whether to go to Canada for stamping or not?

Here are my details.

Recently, changed my status from h4 to f1. Am into my second quarter at university and my husband is on h1b visa, currently.

Thanks,
dipti

My friend is also in the same situation. the only difference is that she is a permanent landed immigrant of canada. so, please update on your cases, any reply would be appreciated.

F1 Visa Stamping

Hi Rao,

I am in a similar situation right now like the one you were in. I was on H1B and I have changed my status from H1B to F1. I have joined my university as a full-time student and now I need to get F1 visa stamping. I would like to know few things about F1 stamping.

• Should I go to Canada or Mexico? Which one would be quick and easy?
• Does the processing time differ from one US Consulate to other? Is there any particular US Consulate/Embassy in Canada or Mexico that I should be going to so the process is quick and easy for me?
• What documents do I need to provide to the US Consulate? Do the document requirements differ from one US Consulate to the other?
• How much time the visa stamping process would take?
• Since my status has already been changed are there still any chances of rejections? If yes, then what are my options?
• How sooner do I need to take appointment with the US Consulate? How much is the waiting period?

Your feedback would be highly appreciated. Thanking you in advance.

Ankit Patel.

Hello All,
I have a few questions about the change of visa status.
I plan to change my visa status from H4 to F1 . I want to go to Mexico for

that.

Which one do you think is a better option ,Going to India or Canada /Mexico?
If any of you have been to Mexico/Canda /India ,Please Let me know about your

experiences .

In case of rejection of my F1 , Can i come back to US on my H4 (H4 is valid

till 2008)?

Also , do we have to submit the I-539 form for change of status?or only

Ds-156,DS-157, DS-158?

Your reply is needed urgently , and will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ranji
you can apply for change of status by being in the United States and not go to any country. But if you want to travel you have to get it stamped from India, canada or mexico. Stamping is only required when you want to travel. Remember, you can apply for change of status in united states and still be here, if you are willing not to travel.

If you visa (stamping from another country)is rejected you cannot come back on your h4 visa because by default your other visa gets cancelled too.

Hope this helps:)
