Is it advisable to create an account on the USCIS page for the purpose of checking case status. I read the disclaimer and it seemed to me one's information can be sold or disclosed willy nillly and one has no recourse. if you have an account please respond

It is not as complicated as opening a bank account ;) Most of us here have an online account so you should be okay.
