Hi,

I am on H1B status. I transferred it recently to a new employer.
I need a new I-94 and i am planning to go get it by crossing the US-Canada border. The POE will most probably be Detroit-Windsor.

Anybody in the forum know anyone that has taken the "land-route" to get their visa stamping or new I-94?

Kindly share your experiences, especially the cbp (customs and border protection) procedures.

Thanks.

good luck

My husband had done it on several occasions. It was a piece of cake. Just keep it together, go prepared with a good employment letter. It took about 15 minutes. I also got dependent visa for myself and the kids, on the Port Huron boarder (I prefer it over the Windsor, it is not as busy and found the workers more pleasant.... but that's subjective and probably unralated, because my husband went to both and ended up with positive outcomes) Good luck.

Turns out that you can turn right-around at the border. So, you can give your current valid I-94 at the border, enter canada, turn right-around, collect a new I-94 and enter US.

In my case, i had two choices for crosssing the US-Canada border - Detroit-Windsor tunnel and the Ambassador bridge.

Other phone numbers to try -
Detroit Border Protection Office 313-963-4408
Some toll free numbers -
1-877-CUSTOMS
1-877-CBP-5511

Sometimes, even the local customs office (in your city) will be of help. The number should be listed in the BLUE pages of your phone directory under "Federal Offices"

Thanks.
