TN to TD Status Change

Hi,
I am currently here on a TN visa. My wife was initially on a TD but later went on a TN. She will be starting school in August and will be quitting her job.
What is the quickest way to go from a TN to TD visa? Does she need to leave the country?
Do i need to cancel the TN visa?
 
Assuming she is a Canadian citizen, the easiest way for her to go into TD status is to leave the US and re-enter. Alternately, she can file I-539 for Change of Status inside the US, but that costs a few hundred dollars and takes many months (although she can stay in the US during that time).
