TN to GC

I know this has probably been asked and answered already but I cannot seem to find the answer. How does one go from TN status to GC? Do you apply for the GC at the same time as getting the TN? I am terribly confused.

"Applying for GC" is a very general term - I guess you should get familiar with the whole GC process (the steps) and come back with the specific questions. The detailed post by CuriousGeorge posted on the forum is very helpful.
