TN question

I am a canada citizen and works in US for a company by holding TN. Can I work for another company at the same time? what status should I apply? another TN or a H1B, or any other suggestion? Any suggestion would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

The Trade NAFTA visa and the H-1B are for specific companies only.
If you are planning to go for your Green Card I would keep the H-1B since it
allows you dual intent. Meaning you can apply for permanent green card status with it even though it is a nonimmigrant visa. The Trade Nafta does not allow dual intent. There are a few people who have gone onto a green card form a Trade NAfta but I would not recommend it. It could open you up to a whole mess of problems if not handled correctly.
If you want to work for more then 1 company you would need a specific H-1B for both.
Until you are at the stage in the Green Card application where you can get an EAD work permit I don't see there being another way.
People correct me if I'm wrong. Once you have an EAD you can work for whomever you please.

If you already have a TN, you can apply for a second TN. There is no limit on how many simultaneous TN's you can have.

By applying for an H1b, you will void your TN. But then you can also apply for multiple H1B visas.

TN is easier to apply for, quicker to get, and cheaper. A TN needs to be renewed every year, and this can be done indefinitely. Once you file your I-485 for green card purposes, the TN cannot be extended, so make sure you have at least 6 months left on your TN before filing an I-485 so that your EAD shows up in time, at which point you'lll start using your EAD for permission to work and an Advance Parole for permission to re-enter the US.

H1B is easier to get a green card (but it’s not impossible to get a green card from a TN either, just trickier). An H1B is way more expensive, and requires much more involvement from the employer. An H1B must be renewed every 3 years, for a maximum of 6 years total, unless the green card process has been started in which cases, 1 year increments are permitted beyond the 6 year point until the green card is approved.
