TN qualifications and keeping Canadian ties?

I have been reading the odd thread that reference TN problems because of insufficient ties in Canada. I've been approved for 3 TN's over the years and severed all ties with Canada. I think I even closed my bank accounts. I was never asked questions regarding ties to Canada. I had my family in the vehicle and a Uhaul trailer fully loaded which I thought made a clear statement that we were going to make a life for ourselves in the U.S for at least one year at a time.

Is this something new they are asking when one applies for a TN?

Thanks

J

It is my unqualified opinion, based on living year to year under TN in Florida for 7 years, that maintaining some tie with Canada is not essential, but important to some of the border agents.
I have kept a bank account in Canada with $20.
I have relatives in Canada, and I use my parents as my home address in Canada upon my return. (I have been asked about my address in Canada).
I have been asked about my future plans, and it is always that I have a one year offer, and I will be returning to Canada....the truth.
If your intent is to plan in advance on staying year to year.....then the TN is not for you.
I also sold my house in Canada, and brought all of my furniture to Florida, where I bought a house, and have a Florida drivers license. No problem, but it is temporary.

Thanks for your reply. Actually, I will only be making periodic trips to the U.S. 1 week at a time at most. I will be maintaining my residence in Canada.

What do they normally use to verify your ties to Canada....a bank account, phone bill etc.?
