Hi everyone,
I was hoping to obtain some advice on a few questions I had regarding a new job opportunity (job offer was received, and contract has been signed!). The immigrations/legal team is now working on the case to draft up the documents I need to obtain a TN visa.
For background, I am a Canadian citizen, currently working in the US on a TN visa (of a different occupation category). Educational background consists of medical degree (MD) and undergraduate research experiences (relevant to the therapeutic area for the new job).
The job title is called "Medical Science Liaison" (other aliases include Field Medical Scientist, Regional Medical Advisor, Field Medical Director, etc). I have gone through the TN visa process once before for another occupation category so have that active TN visa in hand. I know that the title is much less significant than the duties involved, so I have pasted below some general duties of the role and highlighted some of the key roles which I want to bring to your attention.
Based on this job description, I would like to think that "Pharmacologist" is the category. However, in the OOH, I am unable to find 'pharmacologist' but instead redirects me to 'Medical Scientist, Except Epidemiologists (19-1042)'. I feel there's some discrepancy, and worry that perhaps this may also cause some confusion to the officer(s) issuing me the TN work permit. One reassuring thing is that it lists 'pharmacologists' as a role for this category.
As I am currently residing in the US, I'm wondering if anyone has experience recently with flagpoling at the land border to get the new visa. I am planning on going to the Vermont Derby POE (but there isn't much information about anyone's experiences here). Definitely considering flying as an option if people suggest that.
So my questions are:
Thank you for taking the time to support... this is extremely stressful... there's pushback on my start date because of this, and I'm not entirely sure how the manager feels about this.
Best,
J

Engaging external stakeholders: developing key medical experts engagement plans, collecting insights, identifying clinical investigators, communicating medical/ scientific data, connecting internal and external stakeholders, providing conference support, supporting external stakeholder research activities, and responding to medical information requests.
Collaborating with internal stakeholders: providing training, supporting clinical research teams and serving as an scientific medical expert on internal cross-functional teams.
Maintaining MSL Expertise: remaining current on scientific knowledge, maintaining knowledge of pharmacoeconomics, coordinating activities with other field personnel in territory.

So my questions are:
- Would you think that my background and the job duties align with the categorization of 'Pharmacologist' (or I'm guessing it also called 'Medical Scientist')?
- Anyone have any experience with any of the POEs in Vermont, pre-COVID and/or during COVID?
- Would flying be better? Ideally, I would like to make a day trip and not have to spend time quarantining in Canada.
- My passport expires in less than 3 years (about 1.5 years), so the max time I can obtain is until the expiration of my passport, correct?
Thank you for taking the time to support... this is extremely stressful... there's pushback on my start date because of this, and I'm not entirely sure how the manager feels about this.
