TN from US Consulate in Canada, 3 weeks before start date.

Haven't found this one in any thread.

I understand you can't get your TN approved at a border if your start date is more than 2 weeks away. But can you get it from a US consulate more than 2 weeks ahead of start date?

Would like to mitigate the risk of giving my current employer 2 weeks notice and having my TN1 rejected. Not that I feel there is much risk as a Canadian Mech Eng (from CDN Uni) with a job offer as a Mech Eng and a cooperative employer. Maybe I'm being too paranoid .

Thanks in advance for any help!

I did this back in 2017 in Calgary. You have to make an appointment, go in for an interview and they issue you TN. However, it eats up time on your TN if you are not actually in the US. Also, your TN may be reviewed and revoked at the border as well. The officer in the Calgary Consulate told me all this at the time. If it were again, I would just get TN at the border when I cross. If you have all the criteria to get a TN, i.e. qualifications and TN support letter, you will have no problems. You just might be over thinking this...(I know I did)
