Hi,

I have been using TN for a couple of years in the position of engineer. Now company wants to prompt me to a manager position. Apparently with TN I can't be a manager. Should I convert to H-1? If I apply this April, I will get H-1 from October. Then I can start working as a manager from that time, right?

Thanks,

get your TN letter to state the position is engineer, not manager. I assume you are an engineering manager. Then you can still remain on a TN.

There are many people who work in finance with an engineering background on a TN in the engineer catagory. They claim they are financial engineers.

How about the title on the business card or company org chart? Can it be something different?

The title on the card or org chart is irrelavent. The reason is that the catagories the USCIS uses are broad enough to handle cases such as yours. at the root you will doing engineering work and that is what is important, not the arbitrary title your company assigns you as a form of incentive in lue of more money. :)
