Tips For Us Citizenship

I just got my oath ceremony done in New orleans Louisiana.

It took me 27 months for the whole process 14 month in it was just waiting for the oath.

BCIS(INS) is a DISORGINISEDD organization SO I have a few tips based on my experience.

1.Please make sure your name is always as it appears on your GREEN card.

2.If there is unduly delay go contact your senator/congressman as many times as possible.

3.There is no need for staying with the employer for more than necessary as long as you get your gc with the employer(as I never stayed with my sponsored employer even for a single day after I got my passport stamped.) That is a unwritten fallacy.

4.BCIS(INS) guys need a lot of pushing(sometimes) to get our things done . So go to them as many times as possible and request them to move our file earnestly(dont be rude try to be persuasive make them understand your case).

Thanks everybody for everything since more than a year ,Now I got to sponsor to work on my wives I-130,I-129f/k3 visa

Hi Durgum,

Thanks for the post. One quick question about the name.

The name on my green card only has my middle initial. Should I then pring my full middle name on the naturalization application (as requested by the form), or just my middle initial as shown on my green card, or does it not matter?

Thanks!

This is what happenned in my case, During the interview I opted for RAM instead VENKATARAMANA that was on my GC as my nick name in USA had become RAM. The officer thought that I was asking for a name change and that resulted in delay. As BCIS(INS) is sooooo indisiplined they never could find the real reason. Then agter more than a year of waiting I had to call all the senators/congressmen in area and force them to pull up my file and probe for the real reason for the extreme delay for scheduling my oath ceremony. One senators took a lot of interest and that jelped me a lot.

Now if I were you Imight go by my name as it appears on the GC then at the time of the GC TELL the officer that I DO NOT want my name change at all. I 'd make sure that I'd insist at the time of the interview that my oath would be scheduled at the earliest and request the officer that .I'd inform him that I'am NOT going for the name change as that is a real pain requiring the presence of a judge which (oath ceremonies) are very far and few.

If there a delay of more than a few months for the oath then I'd write /contact all the senators/congressmen in area immediately.

I am interested in knowing how you manage to get your citizenship without working for your GC sponsor for a single day.

What happened? Was it a layoff before you got your green card or something else?

Did you get asked by the interviewer during your citizenship interview about your employment history?

Are you still working? Did you got questioned about your gap of unemployment (if any)?

I DID work for an employer UNTILL I got my GC and left after a few months. However I left as soon as O got a bettr job with THE CONSENT of my enployer who was very NICE with me always.

I never got asked about my employment history. One of my closest friend was asked about his tax returns for the past 3 years at the time of the interview which beats me.

NOW IF you READ the ETA 750 a&b carefully you can understand how flexible and simple is the labor conditions are. The sad part of the whole process of labor/gc is DOCUMENTATION DOCUMENTATION DOCUMENTATION and MANIPULATION MANIPULATION MANIPULATION of ones qualifications and the job offer requirements.

Some of my friends with excellent qualifications like PHDS from reputed AMERICAN universities were REJECTED for labor and had to struggle a lot for the labor clearance. AT the same TIME some of my friends with real simple degrees from ASIAN countrries got through the labor/gc in less than 2 years (during 1995-98).One guy NEVER WORKED at all and still cleared the GC with NO PAY at all as hid close friend did all the documentation for the labor/gc.READ ETAa&b carefully for yourself you will get the whole picture

I feel SAD at this whole labor/gc process BSCIS(INS) is ILLITERATE with practically no consideration for ones qualifications.

Thanks 03pilot

I am a litte concerned:

1) My green card did not have my middle name listed
2) My citizenship application has my middle name listed

Will this cause a delay in my application process?

During the time of the interview make sure to TELL THEofficer about that and specifically tell him that You DO NOT want a LEGAL name change AT ALL during the oath ceremony ,that way the oath will be scheduled normally.

I had my interview on May 20. I also did not have middle inital name on my green card. The officer will compare the name on the application and your Birth certificate which you have given during Green Card processing. If you dont want the same name as on the Birth Certificate its considered as a name change. They need to send to court and get the name change. You will be given a chance to chose the name.
Good Luck

While it may not be necessary, it's probably better to be prepared. In any case, the birth certificate is just 1 piece of paper and it wouldn't hurt to have that with you during the interview. They most probably will not ask to see it, but wouldn't it be unfortunate if that was the cause of further delays in your naturalization application?
