I was sworn in as a U.S. citizen today her in Tampa Florida, and just wanted you all to know how extremely smooth and expeditious the process has been. I obtained my permanent resident status in 1980 but decided to forgo becoming a U.S. citizen out of sheer indolence and procrastination; however, due to increased scrutinity/questions by immigration officials after 9-11, I decided to become a citizen. Moreover, for the last fifteen years nobody believed that I wasn't a U.S. citizen anyway due to my semi-redneck proclivities. Time to take the plunge!

1) Application mailed in April 7 2005, received April 14 by the INS.

2) Fingerprinting was done on the 7th of July

3) Official interview took place on August 31......smooth sailing! Didn't take more than ten minutes.

4) Oath ceremony today, September 26.

Bottom line; the whole process took me about five months!!! I should have done this years ago but was always under the impression that it was some prodigious undertaking; a bureacratic dream if you will. Not here in Tampa.......becoming a U.S. citizen is faster than trying to procure a contractor for a new roof!!!

Good luck everybody
