Timeline of a GC Approval: My Experience

I have been a silent reader of this forum. I just received my Green Card and wanted to share the details of my experience.

My case was an EB-2, ROW (Canada)
Employer Sponsored Labor Certification through PERM (University Professor)
Case handled by a Law Firm

Labor filed and approved in January 2007 (approval in 2 days)

I140 filed February 2007 – approved August 2007 (regular processing)

I485 (self and spouse) filed March 2007

I did not file for advance parole or employment authorization (working on H1B)

RFE on I485 - email notification Jan 15, 2008 - This was anticipated as we skipped the TB test due to pregnancy
RFE received by Lawyer Jan 30, 2008 (15 days from email notice)
USCIS returned the original medical certificate in a sealed envelop (to be opened by civil surgeon only). Civil Surgeon completed a new form, with TB skin test results this time, and attached the older one (returned by USCIS) with it.
RFE replied Feb 26, 2008

I-485 approved March 10, 2008 (email notification)
Approval notice received in mail March 15, 2008
Card received March 18, 2008 (delivered in a neighbor’s mail box, who was kind enough to bring it to us). With all the money USCIS charges – they should be using a reliable courier service to deliver the Cards.

It took about 14 months from filing of labor certificate to approval. I never filed a service request, no Info Pass appointment, never wrote to any congressman, senator or first lady. I don’t know when name check was initiated or completed.

Overall this was a smooth ride without any roadblocks. Good luck to everyone.

Cheers
