Timeline for Milwaukee/WI for N400?

We plan to send out applications for citizenship by November when our 5 years would be completed after getting the GC. In fact Nov would be 90 days ahead of the 5 years and satisfied eligibility for citizenship.

We are in Milwaukee, WI and would like to ask netizens here for any experience from Midwest/NSC/Milwaukee. The processing times for Milwaukee say 30 to 50 days but they are quite unlikely and may be a typo mistake. Given that the NSC is processing applications very slow, could I have the lucky chance of completing the entire process by 2004 Summer? Thanks a lot

Thanks. I had a speeding ticket in Alabama(Not sure actually) in 1994 or so and then an accident (nobody died and the ticket was cancelled after I did a defensive driving course in TN). Also a warning at a controlled junction (did not see the policeman standing at the corner) in DC 4 years ago.

Do I have to mention these in N400 application *AND* enclose any documentation? Please let me know. Thanks a lot

You should mention this in the N-400 and enclose any documentation you have that the cases were closed. Easiest way, if you dont have the tickets with you, is to get a certificate of disposition by calling the traffic court in the area where you got ticketed. You will get an official cert. from the court outlining the disposition (i.e., how it was resolved) for usually no fee or a nominal fee.

You can either send a copy of this with your N-400 or take it with you to the interview in case they ask.

MGH,
Thanks a lot for reply. The problem is that, I do not even know if the first speeding ticket was in Alabama or not (I travelled from TN to Alabama but might have crossed another state in between). Until last year I used to have this speeding tkt with me but now I am not sure if I have it or threw it out. It is causing me tension on how to get these things from court you mentioned. Though TN and DC I am sure I can somehow make a contact.

BTW do these cause problems for my citizenship? I hope not.

Second question: After getting GC I travelled to India twice (first trip for about 3 to 4 weeks, second trip only 3 weeks) and once to canada (last month). Totalling these I was absent from USA for about 50 days. My GC says "resident since feb 99". If I go by that date, I can apply 90 days before 2004 or by Nov 2003. Do I have to subtract this 50 days and wait till almost January 2004? My guess answer is - NO waiting required.

BTW all the GC paperwork I did myself without an attorney when the employer signed papers; so I want to apply for citizenship also by myself without an attorney, since my case is not complicated and is straight forward.

Your ideas? Thanks a lot

Speeding tickets should not cause any problems - Almost all of us have had a speeding ticket. Again, it depends on the immigration officer you get during your interview.

You don't have to subtrat the 50 days. You are eligible to apply from 90 days before you complete 5 years of permanent residency (assuming GC through employment).

What about the minor accident? No major injuries to anyone and nobody died. But the other car was damaged and the insurance paid $1500 or so for it. The cop said mine was the fault and the insurance paid for it. But look at the positive part. When I went to court with the ticket instead of paying it immediately, they took me aside (they did that to everyone there that day) and told me "if you do defensive driving course and then pay for the damages to other car thru insurance, we will remove the ticket from your records and that would be it." I did that and everything was settled.

I still have the defensive driver certification. Would this cause problems to me? Where and what would I say about this in N400? (minor accident in TN - details attached and attach the paper from TN state?). November is 2 months away but I am already tense !

Yeah my GC was through employment but I switched two jobs after that. Would that cause problems? (hope not :-))
TIA

You dont have to worry and get tense about it. You need to worry only when you lie. To be safe, I would detail everything as an attachment. You will not be denied citizenship for being at fault at an accident, but more than likely will be denied if you lied.
The reason they ask for any violations is to determine, moral character. Accidents can happen due to various reason - and as long as its NOT due to drunk/drugs and driving you should be OK.

So, give all the information as an attachment and relax.

Good luck.
