Hello
I have returned to this forum after a while since getting my gc in 2003 and my citizenship in 2008 and my kid's adoption in 2009.
I wanted to know what are the current timelines for getting my parents gc approved when filing from California.
They have a ten yr visitor visa from India , so I can file when they are either in the country or out ...which option works out well, please giv e me some pointers.
Thanks

You file I-130 now. Once approved, it will make its way through National Visa Center and land at a US consulate in your parents' country where they will be interviewed for an immigrant visa. Entire process from filing I-130 to interview will take between 5-8 months, YMMV. If you file I-130 AFTER they arrive in US, you can also file I-485 and it will take 3-5 months. These estimates are based on the assumption that you have all paperwork ready in the format acceptable to US goverment.

Once I-130 is filed, they should not travel to US as visitors since they might be denied entry.

Thanks and more

Thanks for the quick reply nkm-oct23
So just to clarify, we just need to file I 130 locally, then either wait for interview in India or file 485 here locally.

File I-485 (along with I-130, together) in US only if they are already here on a visitor visa. Otherwise you file just I-130 now and have them wait at their home country for a visa interview.

I applied for my parents( San Ramon) for GC in July 2012 and am still waiting for approval.

They have EAD and AP in 4 months, but I-130 and 1-485 is already reaching 9 months and counting..

Called customer service and made application processing center, but no hope. Feel like my GC cycle is back again. Now its with parents who have less patience than I thought I had checking the status every day..

Hope the saga ends soon..

Thanjks
