Time to apply for Citizenship

Ok, here is my story.

I have a GC through employment even though I was married to a GC holder. I decided to go through employment for obvious reasons.

Anyway, my wife who is a GC is approaching her Citizenship timeline ( 5 years ). I am in my 2nd year on GC.

The question I have is;

Can I apply for Citizenship under the 3 years rule ( we have been married for more than 3 years now ) when my wife becomes a citizen or should I have to wait until my 5 years - 90 days completion?

Your response is very much appreciated.

Thanks...

you can apply for citizenship under the 3 yrs rule for 1. you have been married with the same USC for 3 years; 2. the person who sponsors must be for USC at least 3 years. I might be wrong but you shall check with the INS guide line for sure thou.

by all means, you might be faster to go thru employment route than counting on getting citizenship thru marriage.

applying for citizenship

Can one apply for US citizenship before the mandated 5 years under GreenCard. I heard that one could apply for it at 4 1/2 yrs, and that way have it processed by the time the 5 yr period is over?

Can anyone help answer? Also after applying how long does it take to get the citizenship?

-thanks

you can apply the US citizenship anytime you want to; but if it is less than 5 years - 90 days, the application will be denied.

Zia,

I think both senarios are identical and perhaps you are better off applying through your own GC:

Senario 1: Through your wife's Citizenship:
- She applys for Citizenship now - Approval approx. 1 year
- She is USC for three year for you to apply - total time approx 4 years
Thus, you can apply in about 4 years from now.

Senario 2: Through your GC:
- You will reach eligibility in 3 years - 90 days.
