time limit on acquired citizenship?

does anyone know if there is a time limit on acquired citizenship?

my mother became a us citizen when i was 16 and a green card holder (back in '87) and i automatically acquired citizenship since i was a minor. we have both been living in the us since that time (20 years). i didnt know all this until a few days ago. i am still a GC holder but would like to apply for a US Passport since i aquired citizenship years ago.

my question is, is there a statute of limitation on when i should have applied for a certificate of naturalization or US passport? OR since i acquired citizenship when i was under age, i am still eligible to claim it??

dude why do u wanna waste your time here...go ahead and file for ur naturalization first before they make a ammendment :mad: .

When your mother became a US citizen, you automatically became one as a minor. You are NOT a green card holder at this time-you are a citizen. Your mother should have applied for a US passport for you at the time. In any case, you can apply for a US passport now-you will need your mother's naturalization certificate in order to prove the timeline. However, if you want to avoid that and get your OWN certificate, you can use the N-600 form. Be aware that it takes months to obtain it. It will make it easier to get your passport of course, if you have your own.

Incorrect. He is already a US citizen. He cannot file for naturalization. He can file for a certificate though.
 
well thats what i was talking about...for me naturalization ends at getting the certificate...
now if u wanna act like a genius and get on every minute detail,my sincere apologies sir!
wihtout a certificate or a passport i cant say i am a american citizen,can i?

You told him to file for naturalization. That means filing the N-400, which was wrong advice. He would have wasted $400 on your advice. Get your facts straight.
