Time it takes after FingerPrinting to get GC Approval

How much time does it take after the Finger Printing, to get the GC approval at the NSC ?

Some of my friends in the East Coast ( Florida and New Jersey ) say that once you get the notice for Finger Prints, the process is almost done and that i should be expecting to get the notice for GC Approval ( Stamping ) in about two to three months. I don't believe this is the time period for NSC.

My dates are as follows
Concurrent I-485 and I-140 filing on EB2 :

RD : Oct 28 2002
ND : Nov 18 2002
1-40 Approval : Dec 19 2002
FP : Jan 16 2003 <--- Yet to go for this.

When can i expect to get the approval after i give the FP ?

I don't think getting an I-485 approval is related to FP notice.
It doesn't work that way. Sometimes the INS sends FP notice immediately after receiving I-485 petition and keep the FBI results in our file and use it when they actually open our case for processing. Those FP are good for an year. If your case is opened after an year from FP, then they will ask for FP again. My ND is 08/21/02. I received FP notice within 3 weeks from the time they received my I-485 petition. I would have received my approval by now if the story is true. That would have made lots of people with ND of Nov 2001 and beyond very mad.
It's not even fair to expect when there are so many waiting in front of us. All that matters is, when would an INS officer actually opens our case and process it. It doesn't matter when they have send the EAD, AP and FP etc.... That doesn't mean anything.

If you receive an RFE, that different. It means an officer has gone through your case and issued an RFE. In such cases, we can safely assume that a decision is imminent after we respond to RFE. That decision could be an approval/denial/local INS transfer.

gcard2002,

Wow, that was very good description of the internal process. Thank you.

I wanted to know what to expect and when to expect. Hearing contradictory stories, i wanted to know a little bit more about the processing at the NSC.

Thanks once again....

gcard2002 is absolutely correct. INS has hastened the FP portion of AOS to get all foreigners fingerprinted and in FBI's database at the earliest possible date. My 485 application was filed 7/1/2002. My FP notice reached me even before I received my EAD/AP!
FP was 8/1/2002 and EAD/AP was received 8/15/2002.
I am currently waiting for my final approval, which probably will only come next year.
So yea, there is no connection between FP and final approval.
