Hi,

We understand that one of the requirement for US Citizenship is Time in District or State:3 months. What does this really mean.

(1) We are currently out of US for the last 1.5 years, but have met the physical presence and the continuous residence criteria. Should we be physically present in the state for 3 months just before applying or is it enough to maintain our home in US, pay taxes etc., but stay abroad and apply for citizenship.

(2) Is travel abroad permitted within the 3 months mentioned. How long can the max time of travel be ?

Appreciate your responses..

you have to physically living in the area of the DO / state which you intent to file your n400 three months prior you file your application.

Thanks for the response....

One more clarification..

I also read that we can apply for Citizenshp 90 days prior to the stipulated 5 years. Say I can apply in Oct 06 [90days prior to the actual date]. Can I stay in US for July, Aug, Sept 06 to met the 3 month time in the district/state and apply for citizenship in Oct 06. Can I then leave the country till the fingerprinting ?

Thanks..
