Time for career change for Indians???

India needs to demand higher slaries

Its sad, but I foresee a lot of resentment among Americans towards Indians from India.

Americans used to say that illegal Mexican immigrants are taking their jobs. Of course that is not true, since nobody wanted to the jobs that the illegal Mexicans did.

The next popular view among Americans will be that Indians are taking their jobs, and with articles like these that show Americans getting laid off and replaced by cheaper Indian replacements, this will surely cause resentment focused directly at any Indian immigrants, especially those working in the technology sectors.

If the articles continue from the media, it may also cause resentment from immigrants from other countries towards Indians. These other immigrants will try to claim that it was the Indians who abused the immigration system to the point where no foreign national would be allowed to work in the US.

The only solution is that all Indians must stand up together and demand higher salaries, to equal their US counterparts. Don't be satisfied with earning a third of what your US counterparts make. This will only hurt you in the end.

What is the definition of Demand?
I donot agree with you. I can give you number of examples where people are working with salaries like $200-$500 a month.
Here I am talking about technical experts, qualified people who would have been worth 80-90k had there been something called justice.
The first priority is to save our a**es and get PR. Even if you get PR, your next fear is keeping it. So do not mess up with it. Eventually you keep quite. After 3 years when you really start feeling brave and proud to be a HOLDER, the next worry is citizenship, so you still keep quite. After getting the citizenship, my foot, nobody dares talk.
I am not trying to insult or embarass you, but the fact is, demand is not the right word. Everyone with the time learns how to quitely accept what he/she gets to keep the show running.

They are in temporary frustration. The fact is, it is economy that is driving jobs to other countries. If it is not India, it would be some other country. We are just the best around and cheaper. With time, they will learn that it is actually good for their own economy.

Its actually better for Americans that Indians come to the US on H1-b or L1, rather than if they stay in India and work for US companies. At least if they are in the US they will contribute to taxes and unemployment. Also more of that money will be spent back into he US economy, therby supporting the jobs that that we immigrants strive to keep.

I do not disagree that many are getting large salaries, but the media is focusing on the ones that are getting much MUCH lower salaries than the people they are replacing. By accepting such low salaries, they will in turn reduce the possibility of one day getting a larger salary for themselves, and eventually killing the American dream that so many Indians aspire to.

It is true that there are very many talented, educated Indians, but that does not mean that they should be paid less than the average American for the same amount of work. That is the point I am trying to make.

I do not want to start an arguement. This is just one of the ways I fear Americans will view Indians. (ie "The ones who took away the tech jobs from our children, blah, blah, blah")

Keep in mind the the media has a tendency of focusing on a single fact, and exploding it to an extreme. People in the US (in general) take all that the media says, and live by it, whether it is an extreme case or not. This is what will hurt Indian immigrants in the end, and only the Indian immigrants can help stop this. Don't be weak. Demand the same amount of money as the person you happen to have replaced, and people will respect Indians in the end a lot more for it.
