Time btween check cashing & receipt generation

I dropped off my I-485 application packet at the San Jose INS office on Aug 15th. I noticed that the check for the application fee was cashed on Aug 21. Typically, how long does it take after they encash the check to generate a receipt?

may be the same day..

I read in this board somewhere that if you can get the encashed check from bank, it will have the WAC # marked by INS.

about 3-4 days

it took 3-4 days to get the receipt in the mail after seeing the bank debit
 
Did you use a lawyer - is WAC number on encashed check really

Your post mentions that you dropped of the 485 application personally. Did you prepare it yourself?
In my case - a screwed up attorey filed the application.
Is there any way I can find out when the check was encashed from them?
Or is it that the company's checks are encashed?
I need to travel urgently.

I prepared the application myself and dropped it off at the San Jose INS office. San Jose doesnt assign WAC#s. So on my encashed check they had put my new Alien Number.

Did you write the check to INS or did the attorney send his own check? In either case, i am sure you will be able to get some information from it. If you wrote it, all you have to do is to go to your bank and ask them to see the check. If your attorney wrote it, I guess you can ask them to contact their bank and get the information.
